Thirteen crops. Four seasons.

A crop here has a water level, a season it will and will not grow in, and a star rating that decides what it sells for. Thirteen of them are new to the game, and so is everything built to keep them alive.

How a crop grows

  • Plant it in the right season. Every seed lists the seasons it accepts, and the ground refuses it in any other.
  • Keep it watered. A crop starts half full and drinks as it grows. Let it run dry and it dies where it stands.
  • Give it light. Light level 12 or higher grows at full speed. Below 6, growth drops to 70%.
  • Pick it ripe. A crop left standing past ripe starts to rot, and part of the harvest comes off as rotten produce.
  • It grows back. Harvesting does not remove the plant. Vegetables reset and start again; fruit trees and pitaya keep their trunk.

Craft a Crop Surveyor — four iron ingots around an apple or any custom seed — and right-click a crop to read its water level, soil quality, temperature, growth and rating.

Seasons run in the survival world only. Crops follow the same protection as everything else: you can plant, water and harvest where you are allowed to build.

The planting calendar

Summer is the fastest season to grow in and by far the thirstiest. Autumn is the slowest. Only corn and garlic go into the ground in winter.

Seeds are sold in the crop market. They also turn up in the wild: breaking grass and ferns can drop one, and oak, birch and dark oak leaves can drop apple and orange seeds.

Water

A crop's water runs from 0 to 100. Above 70 it grows at full speed, from 31 to 70 at 90%, and at 30 or under at 70%. Rain tops every crop up. Otherwise it is on you:

Watering canHoldsReachWater per cropPrice
Copper Can1,000 ml2 blocks5$100
Golden Can2,000 ml3 blocks7$150
The largest can5,000 ml5 blocks10$250

The Copper and Golden cans can also be crafted: a bucket, two spruce slabs and three ingots of the metal. A cheaper can misses some of the crops in its reach; the largest never does.

No farmland? A pot ($50, or crafted from spruce planks and podzol) holds its own water and takes a crop anywhere you can place it.

Stars and what they sell for

Every harvest is rated. A better rating swaps the plain crop for a Silver Star, Golden Star or Ametish Star one, and the crop market pays more for each step. Prices are for one item.

A plain apple from an apple tree is an ordinary apple, so the market only buys the starred ones. Hop yields the most per harvest; trees take the longest to mature.

The crop market

/cropsmarket opens a market of its own, separate from /shop. It buys custom crops, and it sells everything on this page:

SectionWhat is in it
CropsThe thirteen seeds, and the sell screen for produce with a Sell All button
BushesThe six bushes
Money TreeThe five money trees
ElectricitySprinklers, generators and batteries
UtilityGreenhouses, fertilizers, watering cans, the pot and harvest tools

Left-click buys, right-click sells, and shift-right-click sells every one you are carrying.

Sprinklers and power

A sprinkler waters every crop in its square without you. It needs two things to run: water and electricity.

SprinklerWatersPriceOr craft with
Default Sprinkler3 × 3$200Iron ingots and spruce slabs
Golden Sprinkler5 × 5$300Gold ingots, spruce slabs and an iron ingot
Mythic Sprinkler7 × 7$450Diamonds, crying obsidian, spruce slabs and an iron ingot

The bigger the sprinkler, the less electricity each watering costs it. Water comes from a water tank, which is crafted rather than bought: iron holds 5,000 ml, gold 8,000 and emerald 12,000.

PowerHow it worksPrice
Combustion GeneratorBurns coal. Works the same anywhere, day or night$800
Solar PanelFree power from the sky, with less of it at night$1,200

Ultra Solar PanelThe strongest: about double a Solar Panel in a hot biome$2,800
BatteryStores 250 units of charge. Normal holds 375, Ultra 500$200 · $350 · $550

Where you build matters. A solar panel in a hot biome makes three to four times what the same panel makes in a cold one.

Fertilizers

Six kinds, each in three grades. A higher grade works more often or does more.

FertilizerWhat it doesRegularHigh-GradeDeluxe-Grade
Soil Quality IncreaseA chance to improve the soil under the crop$10$18$25
Retain WaterA chance the crop keeps its water when harvested$15$25$40
Stage IncreaseA chance to push the crop forward a stage$15$30$45
Speed GrowFaster growth$17$32$50
Yield IncreaseMore items from a harvest$20$35$50
Quality IncreaseA chance of a better star rating$50$65$80

The regular grade of every kind except Stage Increase can also be crafted from gunpowder, brown mushrooms and feathers around one more ingredient.

Bushes

A bush grows something other than food. All six are planted in spring only, and all six grow back after a harvest. Unlike a crop, a bush pays for patience: leave it on past the first harvest stage and it gives more.

BushPricePicked earlyLeft to finish
Experience Bush$700100–300 experience300–500 experience

Diamond Bush$4,0003–5 diamonds5–20 diamonds, and up to 2 blocks
Netherite Bush$5,0001–2 netherite ingots1–3 netherite ingots, and up to 4 scrap

The dearer bushes grow more slowly.

Money trees

A money tree pays in money, straight to your balance. Planted in spring only. Once grown it can be harvested at three points, each worth more than the last, and then it grows again.

TreePriceFirst harvestSecondFully grown
Green$1,200$100–1,000$300–1,500$500–2,000
Blue$2,400$500–2,000$800–2,500$1,000–3,000

Purple$7,000$1,500–3,500$2,000–4,500$3,000–6,500

The dearer the tree, the slower it grows.

Harvest tools and greenhouses

Anything on this page can be harvested by hand. The market also sells twelve harvest tools, each made for certain plants. Five of them carry an ability that has a chance to fire when you harvest:

ToolUsed onAbilityPrice
Geologist TrowelIron and gold bushesPrecise Cutting$200
Golden Pruning ShearsMoney treesCurrency Increaser$250
Enchanted SickleThe five ore bushesTransmutation$300
Fortune CultivatorMoney trees and the Experience BushFortune Increaser$400
Gem ClipperEmerald and diamond bushesMultiplication$500

Tools wear out: each has its own durability, shown on the item.

A greenhouse is a finished building placed from a single item. The Compact covers 36 blocks of growing space for $10,000, the Standard 50 for $13,000 and the Deluxe 100 for $15,500. It cannot go where you cannot build.

Farming as progress

The Farming skill and the Farmer job are earned on ordinary crops: wheat, carrots, potatoes and the rest. Custom crops pay through the crop market instead, so a farm of both earns twice over.
