Seventy-one fish. Five rarities.

Any rod, any water. Every cast can bring up a custom fish, and the rarest are announced to the whole server.

Rarities

No special rod is needed. Without bait, the odds per catch are roughly:

RarityChanceHow manyAnnounced
Common84%23No
Rare8%13No
Junk4%5No
Epic2.5%15Yes
LegendaryUnder 1%15Yes

Fish have a size as well as a rarity, and a bigger fish of the same kind sells for more.

Fish worth knowing

  • Coinfish (Epic) pays $50 when you flip it.
  • Electric Eel (Rare) zaps you for half a heart when you land it. Pufferfish poisons you.
  • Sunfish (Rare) only bites during the day.
  • Frogs (Rare) only bite in the rain, each kind in its own biomes.
  • Atlantic Cod only lives in oceans, and the Legendary Flower Fish only in a Flower Forest.
  • Legendaries include the King Mackerel, Salmon of Knowledge, Golden Frog, Blue Axolotl and BLÅHAJ.

Baits

Bait tilts the odds toward a rarity. A rod holds up to five kinds at once. The Fisherman sells five:

Gilded ScaleRare$30
Abyssal ShardEpic$40
Embered WormRare and Epic$60
Celestial MoteLegendary$450
Whispering LeechEpic and Legendary$580

Selling your catch

The Fisherman (/warp fisherman) runs the bait shop and buys fish. /emf shop opens the same sell screen from anywhere, and /emf sellall sells every fish you are carrying. Custom fish cannot be cooked, eaten or crafted with.

Fishing as progress

Every catch also feeds the Fishing skill, and the Fisherman job pays for it on top. Daily quests ask for fish in all three difficulties.
